2023 Living Treasure

Vena Stoneham_edited.jpg

Choir organiser and conductor, Vena was previously a long-term resident of Beecroft Cheltenham area.

Vena took the Choir at Pennant Hills Public School on a regular basis during the 1980s training students to participate in the Beecroft Music Festival. This Festival included many schools in the district and a concert was held annually where the children could perform. Although Vena was not a qualified music teacher, she had both the ability and expertise to train the chorus from many schools and thus gave many primary aged children the opportunity to perform in public.

After the Beecroft Music Festival performance Vena remained at Pennant Hills Public School to train the choir to perform at the annual Speech Night Function.

Vena has trained school students from both Pennant Hills Public School and Epping Boys High School to perform and participate in the NSW Schools spectacular.

Vena is a regular organist at the Uniting Church in Cherrybrook. She has shared her love of music with thousands of people and brought them joy.

Vena was honoured in the 2023 Australia Day Honours with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
